Adrianne Hanson, PhD

Adrianne Hanson teaches English literature, composition, business writing, and general humanities as an adjunct professor at a variety of traditional and online institutions throughout the U.S. She is also an Academic Advisor in the College of Liberal Arts at Purdue University, where she acts as a mentor and advocate for undergraduate students.

Dr. Hanson has extensive experience as a university lecturer, including four years as an instructor in the Expository Writing Program at New York University and one year at the University of Augsburg in Germany. She has also worked as a communications consultant, translator, and English language instructor for a variety of businesses in southern Germany.

Dr. Hanson served as the Academic Chair for the M.A. program in Business Communication at Jones International University from 2001 through 2004. During this time, she assisted JIU in the development of its Self-Study Report in preparation for the institution’s re-accreditation by NCA. Dr. Hanson received her Ph.D. in English Literature from New York University, and a M.Sc. in both Scottish literature and Comparative Literature from the University of Edinburgh in Scotland. She received her B.A. in English from Barnard College, Columbia University in New York City. Her current research interests include the Victorian novel, nineteenth and twentieth-century Scottish literature, and how representations of landscape create cultural and national identity in literature and art.
