Ms. Nazareno is currently in her second year as the Math/Science Facilitator at Barnum Elementary School in Denver, Colorado. In this position, she runs a science lab and works with teachers on improving math and science instruction. Before that, she taught in the Miami-Dade County Public School District for 19 years. While there, she served as a science resource teacher at an elementary school for two years, a science teacher at an alternative school for 11 years and, at a traditional high school for seven years.
Ms. Nazareno is a National Board Certified Teacher and certified in two areas. She was the Founding President of the National Board Certified Teachers of Miami-Dade, a non-profit organization whose mission is to improve teaching and learning by amplifying the voice and influence of accomplished teachers. She has been the Alternative Education Teacher of the Year for Miami-Dade County Public Schools, a MetLife Fellow for the Teacher Network Leadership Institute, and a member of the Teacher Leaders Network. Ms. Nazareno was recently part of a solutions team of 18 teachers that released a report entitled Performance Pay for Teachers: Designing a System that Students Deserve, for the Center for Teaching Quality. The report has been widely distributed and utilized in the push for differentiated compensation systems for teachers.
