Verification Process

Here are JIU’s guidelines for verification:

  • All selected applicants will be verified.
  • If selected, you must submit required verification documents within twenty-eight (28) days of notification.
  • If you fail to provide the required documentation within the established time frame, you will be treated as a cash-paying student until the documents are provided.
  • The financial aid office reserves the right to make exceptions to the above stated policies due to extenuating circumstances, on a case-by-case basis.
  • You will be given a clear explanation of the documentation needed to satisfy the verification requirements and the process for document submission.
  • JIU will inform you in a timely manner of the consequences of failing to complete the verification requirements and the actions JIU will take if you do not submit the requested documentation within the time period specified by JIU.
  • You will be informed of your responsibilities regarding the verification of application information, including JIU’s deadline for completion of any actions required.
  • You will be notified if the results of verification change your scheduled award.
  • Any suspected case of fraud will be reported to the Regional Office of the Inspector General, or, if more appropriate, to a state or local law enforcement agency having jurisdiction to investigate the matter. Referrals to local or state agencies will be reported on an annual basis to the Inspector General.
  • No interim disbursements of Federal Student Aid will be made prior to the completion of verification.
  • JIU will assist you in correcting erroneous information.  Please feel free to contact us for help.
