Meet Your New Librarian

We welcome Manuel Santos, taking the reins of Jones e-global library as our head librarian.


Manuel F. Santos, e-global library’s new head librarian, joined us this year from the University of Colorado at Boulder law library, where he acted as the assistant to the head of faculty services for six years. In his role at JIU, he supports the information needs of students, faculty, academic chairs, instructional designers, administration, and other staff.

Manny also does informal teaching, reference and research; customer service; collection development; supervision of contract employees; and assessment of library resources and services. He has a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Colorado at Boulder and a Master of Information and Library Science from Emporia State University.

Here is a message to students from Manuel Santos.

Dear JIU Students,

I am very excited to be working at Jones International University! The reason I became a librarian is because of the impact of technology on libraries, and nowhere is that more evident than at JIU, and Jones e-global library.

I believe my professional experience working in a specialized academic library and my educational experience will make me an asset in assisting you with your information needs. I recently finished my master’s in information and library science via a predominantly online program, so I can certainly relate to your experience with this wonderful environment. I look forward to building on the strengths of
e-global library and pursuing new initiatives that will enhance your learning experience at JIU.

If you are not regularly using e-global library in connection with your studies, I would strongly urge you to begin. It is a tremendous resource for JIU students, with its research guides, electronic books, databases, reference resources, and 24/7 online reference help. Just starting a research assignment can mean being inundated by vast amounts of information, which may be inaccurate or outdated. As an experienced researcher, I understand the value of accessing data that has already been examined and verified.

Finally, we have a new library feature I would like to bring to your attention: EBSCOHOST recently added a new Enhanced Business Search Interface. In the library, go to “Research Databases” and click on “Business Source Premier.” You should then see a link to the Enhanced Business Search Interface. This new interface has a more business-oriented functionality, look, and feel, including quick access to company profiles, industry profiles, country reports, and market research reports. The ability to browse through the different profiles and reports makes this new interface very user friendly, and I’m sure you will find it a helpful research tool.
