Career Services Center

Exciting things are in store for JIU students and alumni in 2006, as we launch a Career Services Center and expand our offerings for students. Kim DeCoste, familiar to many of you as a Senior Admissions Counselor, has recently been promoted to Career Services Coordinator and will be spearheading JIU initiatives to help our students in the areas of professional development, career advancement, and networking.

Kim came to JIU in 2000 as an Enrollment Counselor, and has been a Senior Admissions Counselor since early 2004. Her professional background is in executive search and technical career placement in Southern California, serving clients such as SunAmerica, the Milken Family Foundation, the J. Paul Getty Trust Foundation, and Sony Pictures Studios. Kim is also the alumni coordinator in the Denver/Boulder area for her undergraduate alma mater, the University of California Santa Cruz, where she earned a degree in language studies and linguistics. She recently completed her MBA in
e-Commerce at JIU, and is just beginning the process of organizing and implementing the programs that will make up the Career Services Center.

“I believe that we have an opportunity here to help our students—both our current students and our graduates—advance themselves professionally,” said DeCoste. “With all the exciting new trends in technology, we can access and make available a wealth of career resources. And JIU is ideally suited to networking. I’m very excited to help with this initiative and look forward to working directly with students as new career programs are developed.”

Kim will be introducing relevant and practical resources in 2006, created exclusively for JIU’s student body. She will be contacting students and alumni personally in the coming weeks, so keep an eye on your inbox!
