Dear MABC and BABC students,
You’ve finally managed to get all the Christmas decorations into a box and out of site. You’ve written a couple of resolutions or refined your goals for the year. Now, you’re ready to make them happen, and we have some very good news for you: The MABC and BABC programs have exciting things planned for 2006 that will add to your value in your chosen profession.
- The MABC program has a new course for an elective choice: BC 607 Leading with a Global Perspective. This course will assist you as you begin to support your company’s expansion into other countries and diverse markets. It will also provide you with the opportunity to gain insight into your own set of values and assumptions.
- Both the MABC and BABC programs are rolling out some new technology: a tool called “CourseTalk” that enables you to use a webcam and microphone to communicate via video and audio to classmates and faculty. In some courses, you will see a new requirement for a webcam and microphone. This has been balanced with the cost of your books to stay below a combined cost of $100 when at all possible. Technical help is available and your professors are providing support as well. Incorporating this technology in courses provides you with the skills to participate and to present in virtual meetings, an increasingly common requirement in business communication professions. You will reap the benefits of obtaining the skills required to use this technology for years to come.
- This is the year that the BABC program will begin offering its sales and marketing specialization courses. The first course in sales will be offered in May, but your Academic Services Counselor can sign you up for the course now.
- We’ve just completed BC 612 Influence Strategies in Organizational Change, a very valuable course for those who need to know how to sharpen their skills in influence and persuasion to instigate or manage change. Some very valuable coaching skills are also included in this course. I encourage you to sign up for the course because it covers many required skills for leadership.
- The MABC program has a new service project. This is a project that enables you to engage in innovation in planning how to help others. You will find this project in BC 612, the course mentioned above. This project extends across the eight- week course span and provides you with the unique opportunity to apply your creativity to your workplace or community in such a way as to expand your horizons and practice the concept of reciprocity, giving back to those who have given to you.
There is much more happening in our Business Communication programs, and I will be sharing news with you in upcoming newsletters. Please contact me with any questions you may have and enjoy these new program features.
