BC 563: Enterprise Innovation & Technology

Overview

The focus of this course is understanding the influence of telecommunications technologies in our organizations. We will explore the manner in which these technologies are driving organizations into enterprise and extended network-setting. We will discover why the value proposition of telecommunications technologies lies not only in making organizational performance more sustainable, but also in how it provides the basis for future performance in volatile and dynamic market spaces. Based upon the Knowledge Innovation® Assessment Framework by Debra Amidon, this course uses the future perspective to examine the potential and challenges of telecommunication technologies in organizations.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  • Describe the dynamics leading to the innovation and integration of telecommunication technologies in respect to modern enterprises.
  • Evaluate the functions of various communication technologies currently established in the market space.
  • Specify and describe the effects of telecommunication technologies on the structure of firms, industries, and economies, both locally and globally.
  • Identify major policy initiatives and regulations in both national, the international and the global telecommunications environment.
  • Define the key elements that comprise a telecommunications infrastructure.
  • Determine appropriate telecommunication technologies for supporting the goals of an enterprise.
  • Demonstrate a specific industry's value system and an organization's value network in terms of the information and communication requirements generated.
  • By using a pilot project, specify the effects of introducing new media on an organization's formal and informal communication and decision-making structures.
