EDU-M 712B: Mentoring: Preparing for a Literature Review II

Estimated Hours Per Week: 5

Overview

(EDU-M712A - continued) The purpose of the third session of mentoring is to ensure that EdD students develop their skills at academic research; become adept at critical analysis within their field; develop and/or apply theory to their problems that is appropriate, logically interpreted, well understood, and aligned with the questions at hand; and explore theories’ strengths and limitations. This session, paired with EDU720, helps students to complete the review of the literature section of their dissertations.

Students write a concise outline to a literature review that is comprehensive and up to date; shows a command of the literature; provides context for the problem; and includes a discussion of the literature that is selective, synthetic, analytical, and thematic.
